Next Level Leadership is for all peace officers and personnel of all ranks, tenure, and assignment. Students will deepen their understanding of today’s profession & challenges, the value of quality organizational leadership, communication, leading police cultures, all while improving professional and personal relationships.
Peace officers, non-sworn members, supervisors, middle managers, command staff, and executive staff of all ranks, tenure, and assignment will benefit from this 24-hour professional development course.
Information and skills developed in this course will assist the student in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the next level of leadership responsibilities within the supervisory, middle-management, command staff, and executive ranks. That said, police officers, deputies, corporals, FTO’s, and detectives who have taken this class have benefitted greatly from the greater understanding of our profession garnered in this course. Students will gain a strong understanding of concepts and skills to successfully and professionally manage personalities that exist in organizations, developing work teams, and leading organizational culture while understanding the history and roles of the community and government.
Topics of instruction will include contemporary policing challenges related to police reform, public perception, recruitment, retention, and budgets, as well as organizational culture challenges such as employee attitudes and behavior, city and county government relationships, supervisory and command level communication, building organizational trust, and the value of emotional and social intelligence. Peace officers, non-sworn members, supervisors, middle managers, command staff, and executive staff of all ranks, tenure, and assignment will benefit from this course.
Learning activities include facilitated class discussions during each module taught, class discussions of real-life contemporary scenarios, videos, case studies, and purpose philosophies. Students articulate orally and in writing each day their solutions to real world leadership and organizational challenges.
Each student will receive a class workbook for notes and exercises specifically designed for students to demonstrate understanding of concepts presented.
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for obtaining permission and approval from their departments prior to registration if the student plans to attend on-duty and have the agency pay for it. You know the rules.
If you want to attend, we recommend working with your agency prior to registering for a class. Because if you register for a class, and your department does not approve your time or tuition for any reason, you are still responsible for the terms of the attendance and cancellation policy including any applicable tuition. Again, we know you get it. We look forward to seeing you in class!
Target Audience
Next Level Leadership is specifically designed for a higher and broader level of leadership conversation with those of supervisory, middle-management, command staff, and executive ranks. That said, all members of a law enforcement agency are welcome and encouraged to attend as many have found this course enlightening about the “next levels” of law enforcement leadership.
Course Format
