Modern Constitutional Policing

Modern Constitutional Policing is current, relevant, and a must know topic in today’s world for any law enforcement officer of any rank or assignment. This course will show you what it really is, and what it isn’t.

Description

Modern Constitutional Policing is current, relevant, and a must know topic in today’s world of law enforcement. This course will detail what constitutional policing really is and how to apply it from the streets to the chief’s office. This course is designed to explain the current topics and issues related to constitutional policing, including the why and how of conducting regular use of force assessments, developing policies and procedures that work in today’s world, and how to truly learn and implement modern best practices. This class will discuss what the Department of Justice is looking for when they open a Patterns and Practices investigation against a law enforcement agency, and the steps you can take at any level of an agency to avoid one.

This class dives into which units historically bring the most scrutiny to an agency, units such as K9, SWAT, Gang units, and the Field Training Officer program.  Students will learn how to ensure professional individual conduct, that those units are supervised properly, and are actively engaged in current best practices. How do you know if the agency's front line supervisors are actually performing their job, preventing risk issues from happening, and properly addressing issues when they arise? And let’s talk about culture; does your agency have a great culture you can be publicly proud of, or does it need some work? Come to this course and learn all about why Modern Constitutional Policing is a current, relevant, must know topic in today’s world of law enforcement.

Course Format

This course is offered in two course formats: "Hosted Classes" where students register individually, and "Contracted Classes" where agencies purchase the entire course at a discounted rate. For scheduling or inquiries, please contact us.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for obtaining permission and approval from their departments prior to registration if the student plans to attend on-duty and have the agency pay for it. You know the rules.

If you want to attend, we recommend working with your agency prior to registering for a class. Because if you register for a class, and your department does not approve your time or tuition for any reason, you are still responsible for the terms of the attendance and cancellation policy including any applicable tuition. Again, we know you get it and we look forward to seeing you in class!
