Description
This Modern Supervisory Liability course is specifically designed to instruct law enforcement supervisors and leaders on what they can expect to face and what is expected of them in today's environment. Are supervisors engaged in their position? Are they actively involved in reducing risk to their agency? What strategies can be implemented to ensure that they do?
This course will discuss and provide answers to common questions such as: What are the modern expectations of today’s law enforcement supervisors? What are the common pitfalls and current litigations trends regarding police supervision? How do you go from buddy to boss? With all of today’s laws, rules, regulations, and civil claims, how in the world am I to do my job the way it should be done? How do I set my team up for success in today’s environment? And how do you do your job without creating undue liabilities?
This course will answer all those questions and cover current critical trending areas of supervisorial liability; supervisory responsibilities and liability issues, creating functional teams, building and maintaining morale, officer and organizational wellness, uses of force, proper documentation practices, common use of force issues, cultural issues in public agencies, and modern symbolism and culture issues in today’s law enforcement such as “officer gangs,” facial hair, grooming standards, tattoos, morale patches, memes, and social media posts.
Students will walk away with a much deeper understanding of modern liability issues and how to minimize risk and liabilities to themselves, the people they supervise and work with, their agencies, and ultimately to the communities they serve.
