Description

This SWAT Team Liability course is specifically designed to instruct current and future SWAT Team operators, team leaders, supervisors, command staff, and executives on the current trends in tactical team litigation. This course will discuss the liability issues involved in creating, training, and deploying a tactical team. The need for modern day best practices and policies will be reviewed and stressed.  Students will take a deep dive into issues such as member selection, team standards, team refreshing and rebuilding, physical and mental fitness standards, regional and multi-agency teams, ancillary duties, team structure, team responsibilities, team expectations, and team culture will be discussed.

 This course will debrief actual cases and discuss the tactics and decision-making involved in each case.  SWAT Team Liability will address the imperative for improved supervision in a high risk/high profile/high liability unit. This course will also cover current critical trending areas of SWAT Team liability; supervisory and command level responsibilities, creating functional professional teams, building and maintaining morale, officer and team wellness, the proper application of force, proper documentation practices, common SWAT use of force issues, cultural issues in SWAT Teams, and modern symbolism and culture issues in today’s teams such as SWAT clicks, facial hair, grooming standards, fitness standards, tattoos, morale patches, memes, and social media posts.

Course Format

This course is offered in two course formats: "Hosted Classes" where students register individually, and "Contracted Classes" where agencies purchase the entire course at a discounted rate. For scheduling or inquiries, please contact us.

Target Audience

This class is open to all federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement agency personnel.  All Officers, Deputies, & Detectives desiring SWAT operator positions, SWAT operators, Team Leaders, Corporals, Supervisors, Command Staff, Executives, and appropriate supervisory non-sworn Professional Staff are all welcome and encouraged to attend.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for obtaining permission and approval from their departments prior to registration if the student plans to attend on-duty and have the agency pay for it. You know the rules.

 If you want to attend, we recommend working with your agency prior to registering for a class. Because if you register for a class, and your department does not approve your time or tuition for any reason, you are still responsible for the terms of the attendance and cancellation policy including any applicable tuition. Again, we know you get it and we look forward to seeing you in class!
