Advanced Undercover Tactical Surveillance
This advanced one-day course focuses on complex surveillance techniques, counter-surveillance, compromise management, leadership decision-making, and the transition from covert operations to tactical enforcement. Prior surveillance experience or attending the Operational & Undercover Techniques course is strongly recommended.
Description
This engaging 1-Day Advanced Undercover Tactical Surveillance Course is designed for experienced law enforcement and investigative personnel who already possess a working knowledge of surveillance operations or those who have attended the Operational & Undercover Techniques course. This advanced course builds upon foundational skills and concentrates exclusively on advanced techniques, problem-solving, and operational leadership.
Instruction focuses on managing complex surveillance environments, including high-risk targets, hostile counter-surveillance, dense urban and challenging settings, and time-sensitive operations. Students will examine advanced mobile and foot surveillance techniques, recognizing subtle indicators of compromise, and making rapid adjustments to preserve operational integrity.
A significant portion of the course addresses compromise management, including disengagement strategies, re-establishing surveillance, and transitioning operations when conditions change. Leadership and decision-making under stress are emphasized, preparing students for team leader and supervisory roles during covert operations.
The course also covers the transition from covert surveillance to tactical enforcement, including coordination with arrest teams, risk assessment, communication, and arrest planning. Instruction is scenario-based and instructor facilitated, drawing directly from real-world operations and lessons learned.
This course is ideal for surveillance units, task forces, and experienced investigators seeking to refine their skills and enhance their effectiveness in high-level undercover operations.

Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for obtaining permission and approval from their departments prior to registration if the student plans to attend on duty and have the agency pay for it. You know the rules.
If you want to attend, we recommend working with your agency prior to registering for a class. Because if you register for a class, and your department does not approve your time or tuition for any reason, you are still responsible for the terms of the attendance and cancellation policy including any applicable tuition. Again, we know you get it and we look forward to seeing you in class!
Target Audience
This course is designed for law enforcement officers, investigators, supervisors, and security professionals tasked with conducting covert operations; however, all current law enforcement and security personnel of any rank and assignment are welcome.
